Nikon FM + Nikkor 28mm f/3.5 – 35mm Mechanical SLR

The Nikon FM (introduced in 1977) is one of Nikon’s most respected fully mechanical 35mm SLRs. Built entirely from metal and engineered for long-term reliability, it operates even without batteries — making it a favourite among photographers working in demanding environments.

The FM was used by several well-known photographers who valued dependable, lightweight equipment. Galen Rowell, one of the most influential adventure and landscape photographers of the 20th century, carried Nikon FM bodies on high-altitude climbs and remote expeditions. Jim Brandenburg (National Geographic) also used the FM for work in extreme cold, where its mechanical shutter offered superior reliability. David Alan Harvey (Magnum Photos) incorporated the FM into his travel and documentary kit during the early 1980s.
