Postage, Packaging & Returning Your Cine Reels
Can I send cine film from anywhere in Ireland?
Yes. Customers throughout Ireland can send cine reels to Retro Cameras Ireland in Athy, Co. Kildare.
How should I pack my cine reels?
Cine film and older plastic reels can become brittle and fragile with age, so please pack them carefully. Use a strong cardboard box with enough padding around every reel to prevent movement during transport. Avoid loose reels moving against each other inside the parcel.
Where practical, we reuse the packaging you send your reels in when returning them to you, helping to reduce unnecessary packaging waste. Please bear this in mind and use packaging that is strong and secure enough for the return journey as well.
How should I send my cine reels to Retro Cameras Ireland?
We recommend sending your cine reels using an An Post tracked service and keeping your tracking number until we confirm that your parcel has arrived. Our shipping address will be included in your order confirmation email after checkout.
If your reels are particularly valuable, consider using an appropriate insured service and check An Post’s current insurance terms, exclusions and compensation limits before sending. Remember that irreplaceable family films may have sentimental value far greater than their financial replacement value.
Will I get my original cine reels back?
Yes. Your original cine reels are returned after digitisation. Return postage is added automatically at checkout using our normal shipping rates, and orders of €100 or more qualify for free return shipping within Ireland.
We return reels using An Post tracked delivery. Because old family films can have a unique sentimental value that cannot realistically be replaced or accurately valued, our standard return service does not insure them for that sentimental value. Once the parcel has been handed to An Post, its transport is outside our direct control.
As an additional safeguard, we keep your completed digital files for 30 days after your reels are shipped back to you. This means that if the return parcel is delayed or, in the unlikely event, lost, your digitised footage will still be temporarily retained. We recommend downloading and backing up your files as soon as you receive them.
